(July 15, 2022 – Las Cruces, New Mexico) A surprise is awaiting the abortion facility at the center of the United States Supreme Court case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, due to the efforts of New Mexico pro-life advocates. As the Mississippi abortion business owned by Diane Derzis has closed down and prepares to open under a different name in Las Cruces, New Mexico, the Southwest Coalition for Life is prepared for its arrival and will hold a pro-life demonstration drawing state and national speakers on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at the site of the yet to open abortion center. Mark Cavaliere, CEO of the Southwest Coalition for Life, promises a surprise announcement at the rally, one that will directly impact Derzis’ business potential.

“Abortion is not healthcare,” stated Cavaliere. “The governor of New Mexico is continuing to push the same antiquated 1970s narrative of Roe vs Wade, which for 50 years has been telling women what to do with their bodies – that a woman needs to alter, suppress, and destroy the normal, healthy functions of her natural body through traumatic chemical abortion pills and invasive surgeries, in order to be successful. After 50 years of medical advancements in women’s healthcare, we know that destroying any part of a woman’s body is not healthcare nor is it an advancement of women’s rights.”

The July 19 rally, said Cavaliere, is intended to help galvanize and direct citizens with specific actions to help turn the tide against this injustice, to protect women and children of the Southwest region of the country.

The executive director of Derzis’ Mississippi abortion business, Shannon Brewer, announced that they selected Las Cruces for their new abortion center “because of its proximity to Texas,” making no secret of the company’s intent to draw women from across the state line to sell them abortions. Derzis registered in June 2022 with the state of New Mexico as the Las Cruces Women’s Health Organization, Inc. and has secured a building for the new abortion facility. These actions have prompted an immediate response from the Southwest Coalition for Life.

“This is about empowering women on the new frontlines of post-Roe America to avoid being exploited by the abortion industry for profit,” emphasized Cavaliere. “Women and children are already being harmed in record numbers in New Mexico, and now our state is becoming the abortion destination for the nation, with some elected officials working to actually promote ‘abortion tourism.’ But the people of New Mexico are taking a stand to say not in our backyard, and not on our watch, because women deserve better than abortion.”

“Additionally, New Mexico is now becoming the ‘back-alley abortion clinic’ for the entire state of Texas,” Cavaliere added. He pointed to reports that two of Texas’ largest abortion vendors are planning to move their operations to New Mexico and to a California-based tele-health abortion business that is expanding its New Mexico operations.
