Yesterday — just four days before Christmas — it was officially announced that after 21 months of El Paso County being abortion-free for the first time in over four decades, the local Planned Parenthood is tragically resuming abortions.
The nation’s largest abortion corporation opened the current El Paso branch in October of 2018 and began flying abortionists into the Borderland twice a month to perform abortions through March of 2020. For nearly two years since, they had not provided abortions and their license had recently switched to a status of “inactive.”
As of December 15, 2021, however, they have now resumed providing abortions up to five weeks and six days of gestation with the medical abortion pill. This is still allowed by the Texas Heartbeat Law that became law on September 1, 2021, banning abortions after 6 weeks of pregnancy through civil enforcement.
Planned Parenthood Spokesperson Autumn Keiser stated in an email to El Paso Matters, “Despite politically motivated efforts to block that access [to abortion] we remain resolved to do everything we can to [provide abortion] … in compliance with Texas’s extreme abortion restrictions … We are relieved that El Paso and nearby communities once again have access to [abortion].”
Despite this facility opening in 2018, there was nevertheless still a decrease in abortions by El Paso County residents reported to Texas Health & Human Services over the next two years following the launch of our staffed Her Care Connection intern outreach program, which saw a dramatic increase in abortion-vulnerable women connected to and served by local pregnancy help centers.
In March 2020, we saw both the closure of the Hill Top abortion facility as well as the cessation of abortions offered at Planned Parenthood, leaving the last active abortion center remaining just across the state line in Santa Teresa, New Mexico… until last week.
Interestingly, all of that took place prior to the passing and enforcement of the Texas Heartbeat Law, which seems to have spurred and emboldened abortion activists to resume abortion in El Paso as quickly as possible up to the allowed limit.
Rest assured, our team at the Southwest Coalition for Life became aware of this heart-breaking update last week before it was even announced and immediately began strategic adjustments to our outreach.
In fact, yesterday — just hours after this announcement was made public — one of our sidewalk interns, Paola, was already on-site and was able to successfully refer a young woman away from Planned Parenthood to the Guiding Star center just three blocks away!
I am in awe that our team was able to make this rapid adjustment to this tragic curve ball in complete confidence without missing a beat. This was only possible because our community has faithfully invested financially into make this level of full-time focus possible.
Now God is giving me this opportunity to humbly come to you with this news that we are still $21,745 short of our end-of-year financial goal, and now we need your financial help more than ever before, if at all possible — for our work to rise to this new challenge and continue to impact more lives throughout 2022 and beyond.
Our entire team and our families are willing to do whatever it takes and endure whatever hardships and challenges come our way to stand with moms and help them be heroes in the face of this injustice.
I hope you’ll stand with us in making whatever sacrifice God puts on your heart today. If He is weighing on your heart to make a tax-deductible one-time gift toward this critical goal, click below:
If you feel called to join our ongoing effort through a monthly membership, all new and increased monthly pledges will also be annualized, meaning, for example, a new or increased membership of $100 will be multiplied by 12 and counted as $1,200 towards this goal.
If you prefer mail, send checks or monthly bill pay to: Southwest Coalition for Life, 1521 E Missouri Ave, El Paso, TX 79902 … although they must be postmarked by December 31, 2021 to count towards this urgent year-end need!
Here’s my promise: Every dollar you invest into this mission will be used to help the maximum number of local moms save their babies from the predatory abortion industry … until Planned Parenthood is closed permanently!
And finally, please keep this work in your prayers — you have no idea how much we appreciate that!
