Day 23: Maker of All Things

Day 23: Maker of all things

In the pro-life movement, Planned Parenthood has been our “Goliath.” In the story of David in 1 Samuel, it says Goliath was “a champion…[whose] height was 9 feet 9 inches. He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels, on his leads he wore bronze greaves and a bronze javelin was slung on his back…[and] for 40 days the Philistine came forward every morning and evening…” shouting things against Israel and God himself.

Today, Planned Parenthood stands so proud and is clothed with so much money and support. They mock and belittle those who oppose them. They too have sneered at the Creator of life. Their power and influence in our nation is so evident. It has been a long battle.

But like David, let us not forget who we have with us compared to who is against us. David boldly tells the king, “Because he has defied the armies of the Living God. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”

That same Living God, who David put his complete trust in, is the same God who years after Jeremiah wrote about and said, “He made the earth by His power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by His understanding. When He thunders, the waters in the heavens roar; He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He sends lighting with the rain and brings out the wind from His storehouses.” (Jeremiah 51:15-16) And this very same God that Jeremiah spoke about, is the same today.

Scripture says that “the images [of those who are] senseless and without knowledge, are a fraud; they have no breath in them. They are worthless, the objects of mockery; when their judgement comes, they will perish. [but] He who is the Portion of Jacob is not like these, for He is the Maker of all things, including the people of His inheritance- the Lord Almighty is His name.” (Jeremiah 51:17-19)

Continue in your dedication through your hour of prayer. As you stand out there, pray, knowing the power that our God has. Pray, knowing that Planned Parenthood and every abortion facility will one day come to an end because they cannot stand against the Creator of all things.

Devotional for Day 23

Intention:
We pray for the strength to love those who do not love us.

Scripture: But the Lord said “You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in the night and perished in the night. And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left, and much livestock? Should I not be concerned about that great city?” —Jonah 4:10-11

Reflection: God doesn’t value people and things like we do. Jonah loved a shade tree more than an entire city of sinful people. We love our dogs more than a terrorist. We love our cars more than a beggar on the side of the road. And sometimes, we love our money more than a child growing in a desperate teenager’s womb. But God isn’t like us. Genesis 1 tells us that humans were the capstone of God’s creation. We were created on the sixth day after God had completed the land, the stars, the plants and the animals. Therefore, His love for us is greater than His love for a plant, an animal, or any other created thing. And the book of Jonah tells us that He loves even the most sinful people and seeks to bring them into His merciful arms. And it’s a love that seeks to touch all of his created children: that desperate teenager, the baby growing in her womb, even tyrants and terrorists. So it’s up to us to imitate God’s merciful love by helping and praying for those who persecute us, and those who don’t love us back.

Prayer: Gracious God, loving our enemies seems like one of most difficult things you could ask of us. Please remind us that this is how you love and that if you ask it of us then you will give us the grace to do it. This we ask through Christ our Lord. Amen.
