Day 3: God Commissions Moses (and you!)

In the story of Moses, God sees His people and tells Moses, “I have seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters; I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians…” (Exodus 3:7-8)

In the same way, God has heard the affliction and the cry for help of the unborn across our nation and He knows their sufferings. God’s pro-life commission is to save the lives of the unborn. He has come down to deliver them out of the hands of the abortionists.

“I am not eloquent…”

God commissions Moses to go to Pharaoh and tell him to let God’s people go.

“But Moses said to the Lord, ‘Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither in the past nor since thou hast spoken to thy servant; but I am slow of speech and of tongue.’

Then the Lord said to him, ‘Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him dumb, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.’ But Moses said, ‘Oh, my Lord, send, I pray, some other person.’” (Exodus 4:10-13)

Who has God commissioned? You

Rise Up In Obedience

Although you might not necessarily be speaking like Moses did, God has asked His people to rise up and make a stand for the unborn. More than likely, that entails getting out of your comfort zone

More often than not, it also means doing something we are not good at. God’s pro-life commission will require:

  • Sacrifice
  • Obedience
  • Trust

Perhaps going out to pray for one hour is a big stretch for you. Maybe God has been tugging at your heart to be more involved in the pro-life movement, whether that means praying more hours, plugging in with your local pregnancy center, or being on the Southwest Coalition for Life team.

One thing for sure is to keep being out on the sidewalk. Live it out, not only that hour, but also share with others what is happening. Get your family and friends involved.

Maybe you have felt like Moses and have said, “Lord send someone else.” I am here to tell you there is no “someone” else. You are the one. So regardless if you are with someone during your hour or you are the only person, be reminded you have been commissioned by God Almighty to go and pray for the unborn who are suffering.

Devotional for Day 3

Intention: We pray for God’s gift of strength as we strive to protect human life during these 40 Days for Life.

Scripture: “For you formed my inmost being, and knit me together in my mother’s womb.” ~ Psalm 139: 13

Reflection: Expressions of awe and wonder at God’s intervention in the life of a child in its mother’s womb occur again and again in the Psalms. How can anyone think that even a single moment of this marvelous process of the unfolding of life could be separated from the wise and loving work of the creator, and left prey to human caprice? ~ Pope St. John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae

Prayer: Lord, we lift up in a special way the women that are going to the “Planned Parenthood” and “Women’s Reproductive Clinics” in El Paso and Santa Teresa, and abortion centers across New Mexico and Texas, that they would see, through the 40 Days For Life Vigil participants, your incredible love for them, AND for the precious child, whom YOU have created, in their womb, and give them the courage to choose life. We pray this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
